Tourism For Peace

27-September is UN World Tourism Day. The message from United Nations for the day is “Tourism & Peace”. I believe a modified version of the phrase, “Tourism for Peace”, would have been more appropriate, for I believe tourism, or more specifically travelling and getting to know cultures other than ones, promotes and imbibes not only respect, but opens our own horizon to think with a different perspective. When tolerance and respect is in short supply, not only between nations, but even among the population within a country/nation, it becomes necessary to develop ways for people to see other people in a cultural setup that helps understand, and hopefully appreciate, other point of views and beliefs.

In the sketch, I have used the name of the famous book, War & Peace, by Leo Tolstoy. One side of sketch represents War scenario, while the other Peace. If you notice the postures of the characters are identical on both sides, except what they carry in their hands. This is just to illustrate the point of what we carry in our mindset gets reflected in reality. A drum can be a War call or a beat of celebration!
