Stalin, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and leader of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam
(DMK), appointed his son Udhayanidhi, an
actor and minister in the state cabinet, as Deputy Chief Minster. With this “elevation”, Udhayanidhi is not
only number 2 in the cabinet, but it gives a clear message to the party cadre
and supporters as to who their future leader in DMK is. Tamil Nadu goes to
elections in another year-and-a-half. And with Vijay, a popular Tollywood
actor, making it clear that he would fight the upcoming coming assembly
elections, it was important for DMK to retain their appeal among the youth by
bringing to the fore a relatively younger leader, in the form of
Udhayanidhi.
In the sketch, I have used the party symbol of DMK, which is the raising Sun, to illustrate the politics of “Son” rise. The sun to represent the CM and half-moon to represent Dy CM.
