The Quintessential Sacrificial Lamb

WORKHOURS-14-HOURS-A-DAY: The Karnataka state government wants to imitate China—a role reversal as China is known for imitation! It seems, as per reports, Karnataka wants to adopt labor practices followed in some countries, including China, to attract investment in IT, electronics and semiconductor sectors. As per reports, there have been specific requests from the IT companies too to increase the working hours to what is being proposed. Obviously, two shifts of 12 hour cycle would be beneficial to the companies.

At a time when AI seems to be taking the tech industry by storm, government too seems to have decided to do its part. Humans to compete with AI, should work as machines – 8 hours a day is too humane; 12-14 hours a day seems more machine like!

Considerations of mental health or physical health or the health of the society in general, seems to have Gone with the Wind in this wild competition for investments and profits.

In the sketch, I have used the analogy of the lamb, which is soft and timid, to represent the employees, the joker to represent the employer, who wears the color of the money up their sleeves, and the government to represent the shepherd, who on bent keens offers the lamb as a sacrifice to the large corporations, instead of being the protector of one. The whole scene has a medallion in Red and Yellow, the color of the Karnataka flag.
